With the current bus terminal scheduled to move out of the 9 ha site in 2023, opportunities are already being explored to create cultural spaces, a network of public spaces and other public amenities.

The 22,000 square metre hangar in the bus terminal is unique because of its size and the potential for internal space utilisation. Although the condition of the buildings is not good, certain elements could be retained and incorporated into the new quarter. Ideas are currently being explored for what could replace the hangar and, above all, for social partners who could activate the building.

The plan is to move public transport from the current Verkiai bus terminal to two new bus terminals in Pilaite and Liepkalnis, further away from the city centre. Vilnius City Municipality and the municipal company Vilniaus viešasis transportas (Vilnius Public Transport) are already planning these changes.
