In short

Užutrakis Manor is one of the brightest and best-preserved manors in Lithuania. Established and restored on the shores of Lake Galvė, the ensemble of the manor and the park reflects the spirit of 19^th century Lithuanian nobility.

Count Juozapas Tiškevičius, together with his wife Jadvyga, established Užutrakis Manor at the beginning of the 20^th century after being inspired by the unique Trakai landscape.

Today we enter the manor by land, but Count Juozapas Tiškevičiaus’ family used another way – they travelled to the peninsula on a raft over the Galvė and Skaistis Lakes, where a ferryman used to live. The land road at that time was used only for farming and was therefore called the Potato Road. Tiškevičiaus’ guests, who visited frequently for receptions, meetings with relatives or friendly feasts, did not use that road either.

The manor belonged to Counts Tiškevičiai until World War II. The manor was nationalised and turned into a sanatorium, a pioneer camp and later a tourist base during Soviet occupation. The manor was badly damaged – the original plan of the palace was destroyed and the park was abandoned.

Brief History

Polish architect Jozef Huss designed the palace, which is decorated with impressive Louis XVI style interiors. An open-air pavilion-crowned terrace that offers dreamy views of Trakai Castle completes the ensemble. The mixed-style park decorated with replicas of antique sculptures and an abundance of plants was designed by eminent French landscape architect Édouard François André. The park is home to a hundred species of trees and shrubs, more than half of which were specifically brought into the park while building it.

Užutrakis Manor is now experiencing a rebirth – the palace is under restoration and the park is being renewed. Concerts and exhibitions take place here constantly and the ensemble itself is one of the most visited places in the region.
