The Town Hall hosts various events, exhibitions and charity fairs. Visitors can even take a tour of the building’s catacombs. Town Hall Square, which opens up in front of the building, hosts major fairs, events, and concerts, and is always right in the heart of adventure in the Old Town. And though you might not see the bears that were a source of entertainment in the Middle Ages, it will still be fun. Look for one of the several depictions of the coat of arms of Vilnius, which features St. Christopher.
Vilnius Town Hall was first mentioned in 1432. It was last rebuilt by architect Laurynas Gucevičius at the end of the 18th century in the neoclassical style. At some point, the building served as the city’s theatre and staged Vilnius’ first-ever opera. It was also used as a Museum of Fine Arts until it became a representative building hosting events and concerts.
