On Wednesday, January 22, Vilnius officially became the European Green Capital 2025. In a solemn ceremony, this prestigious title was taken over from Valencia. During the ceremony, Vilnius confirmed its determination to become an even greener, more harmonious and innovative city, inspiring not only Lithuania, but also the whole of Europe for sustainable changes. During the ceremony, the Green City Accord network was also expanded in Vilnius, whose members commit to achieving even more ambitious environmental goals. Vilnius belongs to this network of cities from 2021.
Vilnius was elected European Green Capital 2025 for its strong commitment to sustainability goals based on a realistic and responsible approach to climate change, urban growth and the challenges it poses. Vilnius' slogan "We are creating the greenest city" reflected the city's ambition to create a sustainable future and the desire to involve all Vilnius residents in creating a more sustainable city and life in it. The European Commission noticed the courage of Vilnius to admit that it is not yet the greenest, but it is purposefully taking this path, aiming not only for sustainability, but also for a quality life for its citizens.
The solemn ceremony took place in the recently renovated Contemporary Art Center (CAC). The spaces of CAC are adapted not only for art exhibitions, but also for events of various formats - from conferences to creative workshops. Modern halls with a capacity of 48 to 470 guests, cozy discussion areas and an inner courtyard with a view of the city skyline create a unique environment. The synergy of contemporary art and events here becomes an opportunity to create memorable experiences and indelible impressions for the participants.
