In short

An exclusive panoramic view of Vilnius can be admired from the highest building in the Old Town – the campanile of St. John’s Church. Having climbed 193 wooden stairs (45 metres), visitors can admire a bird’s-eye view of the Old Town and outskirts of Vilnius. Don’t worry, you don’t have to climb it; there’s an elevator that can be used to get to the top of the building.

The view of the colourful Old Town roofs and the city’s natural spaces is breathtaking. Be sure to admire Foucault’s Pendulum, which demonstrates the effect of the Earth's rotation around its axis. The pendulum is installed on the second floor of the tower, so it’s possible to watch the dynamics of the pendulum swing from a platform. A giant ball that swings at a height of tens of metres can be observed. During the day, the swinging ball changes its position and imitates the Earth's rotation around its axis.

Brief History

The Campanile of St. John’s Church is a part of the Vilnius University ensemble, and was built between 1600 and 1610. It perfectly reflects Renaissance and late Baroque architecture.
