The event returns to Vilnius' Vingis Park on July 25th after last year's record of 70,000 visitors.
June 20, 2024 – Vilnius, Lithuania. For the third year, Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, celebrates its birthday on July 25th with the As Young as Vilnius event in Vingis Park, one of the city's largest green areas.
The free one-day festival presents an eclectic lineup of classical music virtuosos, including the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre orchestra, unexpected duets, and contemporary pop, rock, and electronic musicians, culminating with British pop star Rita Ora as the main act.
Since her breakthrough in 2012, Rita Ora has solidified her reputation as a talented vocalist, actress, and fashion icon. Her debut album "Ora" topped the UK Albums Chart in 2012, featuring the hit single "How We Do (Party)." She recently announced her return to the stage after a nearly three-year hiatus. Known for her energetic performances, Rita Ora brings passion and enthusiasm to every song. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with top-tier artists like Ed Sheeran and Cardi B.
"The As Young as Vilnius festival captures the true essence of the city: youthful but at the same time — appealing to crowds with diverse tastes in music, culture, and entertainment. It’s one of the most highly-awaited events of the summer as it creates a magical atmosphere in the lush oasis of Vingis Park. During the city’s summertime birthday celebration, the park becomes a vibrant center that draws in a multigenerational and multinational crowd: from children to seniors, from Vilnius citizens to music enthusiasts from Lithuanian regions and guests from overseas,” says Dovilė Aleksandravičienė, CEO of Go Vilnius, the official tourism and business development agency of Vilnius.
Last year, the festival attracted a record-breaking crowd of 70,000 residents and visitors and the organizers anticipate a similar turnout this year. The program for the 701st birthday features even more concerts, unexpected guests, sports events, sustainable entertainment, sustainable installations, as well as activities for seniors and children.
The event, akin to renowned open-air music festivals like Glastonbury, albeit on a different scale, was established three years ago as a prelude to Vilnius' 700th anniversary festivities in 2023. Since then, Vilnius has celebrated its birthday twice a year: on January 25, marking its first mention in historical records, and on July 25, honoring Saint Christopher, the city's patron saint.
