Lithuania continues to enhance its global standing in the financial and banking sector. On December 14-15, 2023, Vilnius will host the prestigious World Finance Banking Symposium, a significant international gathering in the field of finance, with the participation of 200 esteemed delegates. This year, the responsibility for organizing this event falls upon the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Vilnius University (VU).
The World Finance and Banking Symposium annually draws top-tier university researchers, national bank scholars, policymakers, and leading financial market experts from across the globe. It serves as an invaluable platform for deliberating on pressing financial science issues and presenting cutting-edge research findings.
In this year’s symposium, a wide array of pertinent topics will be explored, including financial technology, sustainable finance, corporate financial reporting and ethics, etc. Special sessions will delve into discussions on fintech, microfinance, crowdfunding, sustainable/green finance, as well as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations.
The organization of the World Finance and Banking Symposium not only bolsters VU but also elevates Lithuania’s profile within the financial sphere. Data from the high-tech companies and talent ecosystem Vilnius TechFusion show that the number of Fintech companies in Vilnius increased by 72% in the past two years, comparing 2020 and 2022. This positions Vilnius as the leading Fintech hub in the European Union regarding licensed companies. Furthermore, Lithuania is 8th globally among the lowest ML/TF risk jurisdictions and 3rd in the OECD for corporate tax competitiveness.
