Vilnius has been chosen to host the prestigious European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML PKDD) in September 2024, ahead of other European cities.
With over two decades of successful events and conferences across the continent, ECML PKDD is the flagship European conference on the subject, attracting a worldwide audience of experts and researchers in computer science and artificial intelligence. The five-day conference program will include presentations of peer-reviewed novel research, invited talks, a wide range of workshops and tutorials, poster sessions, a discovery challenge, a demo track, and an Applied Data Science track. It is expected that over 1,000 of Europe's top experts and researchers will attend the event.
The Vilnius bid to host the conference was led by Professor Linas Petkevicius, a researcher at the Institute of Computers Science of Vilnius University and a board member of Lithuanian Artificial Intelligence, as well as Go Vilnius Convention Bureau. According to Petkevicius, "Winning the bid to host ECML PKDD in 2024 is a great honour for Lithuania's community of computer scientists and informaticians. It demonstrates the strength of our research capabilities and our commitment to advancing the field of machine learning and data mining."
Hosting this prestigious conference will not only provide Lithuanian researchers with an excellent opportunity to showcase their work and network with colleagues from around the world but will also establish Vilnius as a hub for cutting-edge research in the field of artificial intelligence. The quality of research being conducted in Lithuania is a testament to the region's potential for attracting more attention and investment in the field. The conference is expected to generate an economic benefit of over 5 million Euros for Vilnius.
