Breaking Barriers: Key Disability Rights Discussions at EDF 2025 in Vilnius

The European Disability Forum (EDF) will take place in Vilnius on 20-22 June 2025, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss critical issues surrounding the rights and accessibility of persons with disabilities across the EU. The right to host this prominent event was awarded to Vilnius last year, thanks to the initiative of the Lithuanian Disability Forum (LDF). LDF, the largest organization in Lithuania representing disability groups, unites 15 organizations and represents a combined 300,000 persons with disabilities, their families, and temporarily disabled individuals.

EDF 2025 discussions will address vital topics, such as the European Disability Card, which aims to standardize discounts and preferential access to services like museums and public transport across all EU countries. Another key topic will be Passenger Rights, focusing on EU laws governing accessible air and cross-border travel, ensuring equal rights for persons with disabilities when traveling.

In addition to the member-only discussions, a public conference on Friday, 21 June will explore the theme “The Right to Decide”. This event will address the principle of equal recognition before the law, discussing legal capacity and decision-making rights for persons with disabilities—fundamental issues for their inclusion and autonomy in society.

Vilnius offers more than just a welcoming environment; it is a city committed to social inclusion. The city’s compact, accessible infrastructure enables seamless movement, and its strong commitment to human rights ensures all guests feel valued and included. Public transport, venues, and accommodations, including the Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva, the main conference venue, are all equipped to meet the needs of people with disabilities, demonstrating the city's readiness to host such significant international events.

Vilnius' dedication to social inclusion, its high-quality infrastructure, and its preparedness to host international events make it an ideal destination for EDF 2025, reaffirming its role as a leader in advancing disability rights and social inclusion.
