The Lithuanian company Geld Baltic, which owns the brand Super Garden, has secured a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop nutritious and delicious snacks for the International Space Station crew.
Super Garden utilises freeze-drying technology to create a range of innovative snacks, including their well-known freeze-dried ice cream. However, launching these vibrant flavours into orbit presents a unique challenge, as astronauts' taste buds become less sensitive in space. To address this, Super Garden has crafted a flavour-packed menu of freeze-dried foods inspired by the home countries of astronauts.
“You can freeze-dry anything – even cold beetroot soup, cheese, meat, or alcoholic beverages. Our breakthrough came with freeze-dried ice cream that doesn’t melt; it’s in demand in numerous markets globally,” says Laura Kaziukonienė, the company’s founder.
“Today, we can push the boundaries further. At Super Garden, we not only employ the latest freeze-drying technologies but also explore entirely new protein sources that are essential for healthy snacks. We hope this will accelerate advancements in the astronaut food sector,” she adds.
Excitingly, you don’t need to launch into space to sample Super Garden's snacks. Your delegates can enjoy these delightful treats the next time they're in Vilnius, treating their taste buds to a cosmic adventure!
