Michelin is delighted to announce Lithuania as the newest addition to the MICHELIN Guide, marking the country as a premier culinary destination. This inclusion completes the representation of the Baltic States in the guide, alongside Estonia and Latvia.
Michelin Inspectors have conducted extensive explorations throughout Lithuania, sampling a wide array of flavours in various regions. Their culinary journey featured everything from traditional local fare to innovative dishes with French, Italian, and Indian influences. The inspectors highlighted the importance of traditional preservation techniques in Lithuania, which involve utilizing all parts of meats, fish, and vegetables during the colder months. This approach ensures a comprehensive use of ingredients, from nose-to-tail and root-to-tip.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, notes that this new guide will spotlight the distinctive qualities of Lithuanian restaurants. It aims to celebrate the nation’s skilled chefs and their dedication to creativity and culinary heritage.
Supported by Lithuania’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation, with endorsements from Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė, this recognition highlights Lithuania’s rich historical tapestry and vibrant natural landscapes alongside its burgeoning gastronomic scene. This acknowledgement not only showcases Lithuania’s cultural and culinary prowess but also invites the world to discover the country’s unique blend of tradition and innovation.
The first Lithuanian restaurant selection of The MICHELIN Guide will be unveiled during a special event to be held on 13th June 2024 at the Merchant’s Club in Vilnius.
