Wishing to attract success? Look for the 40 cm wide bronze bas-relief known as the Lucky Belly in Vilnius, created by the sculptor Romas Kvintas and architecture Alvydas Songaila. The sculpture is dedicated to all those who are in need of a little luck.

The piece is located in the very centre of the city on Vilnius street, and built into the wall of the Novotel and Business Centre. Alongside the sculpture is a message stating that you have to rub the belly if you want to achieve success in business. 

The bas-relief depicts a full, fatty fragment of a male belly with a ribbon symbolising Oriental traditions. Such a spectacle will surely make you smile, and maybe even attract success.

Brief History

The creator of the sculpture, R. Kvintas joked that he took inspiration from looking at his own belly while making the sculpture. The artist has also calculated that if people were very active in rubbing the belly of success, they could rub a few millimetres of bronze off the statue over the course of a century.

The Lucky Belly sculpture is based on an old legend about a former Mayor of Vilnius, who in the 19^th century was interested in one poor local family consisting of two talented and successful sons: one became a trader and the other a famous jeweller. The mayor marvelled at the success of such a poor family and asked the mother how she managed to raise her children to become such successful people. The woman answered, “What you stroke – grows.” She used to stroke one of her son’s arms every morning and the other son’s tummy. She patted the mayor's head after she told him her secret.
