In short

This monument, built more than a decade ago, is made of the tombstones once taken from the cemetery and used for the stairs of Mount Taurus in Soviet times. The cemetery also contains about 70 concrete tombstones and their fragments.

The Old Jewish Cemetery is the eternal resting place for Lithuanian Jews and their prominent religious figures. A memorial monument with Jewish inscriptions is erected there.

The Jewish Cemetery, which was in operation until 1946, was destroyed during the Soviet period and over the years has become overgrown with bushes.

The cemetery formerly occupied an area of 11 ha and about 70,000 people were buried during there. Among them were many prominent individuals who contributed to the promotion of Jewish culture around Vilnius.
