Vilnius Portal Finds its New Home at City Hall: Re-opening in the Heart of the City

Vilnius city is thrilled to announce the long-anticipated relocation of the Vilnius Portal to one of the city’s most culturally and historically significant locations: Vilnius City Hall Square. On April 17th, 2025, the Portal reconnected to the Portals Network, now from the very heart of the city.

The Vilnius Portal is the first sculpture of its kind and part of a global network of Portals that also exist in Lublin (Poland), Dublin, (Ireland) and Philadelphia (USA), with more locations to be opened soon.

A symbol of global connection and unity, Portals exist as a bridge between countries and communities. It is a real-time unfiltered window fostering human connection above all borders, labels and differences. After a successful chapter in its previous location, the Vilnius Portal was relocated to its new permanent home at the City Hall Square, in the heart of the Old Town – a UNESCO world heritage site and place that embodies the rich cultural and historical heritage of Vilnius.

Vilnius has always been open to the world — our history reflects that. We are a city and a community that invites people to create together. By relocating the Portal to Town Hall Square, we are symbolically opening the heart of the city to everyone — regardless of where they live. I hope people will not only stop here, but also connect — even if just through a screen,” said Valdas Benkunskas, Mayor of Vilnius.

The new location in the heart of Vilnius, our capital, offers a deeper connection to Lithuania’s essence and strengthens the connection with local people. The new position in the heart of the city increases the significance and weight of this bridge to a united planet that we are all building together - one Portal at a time.” said Benediktas Gylys, Founder of portals.org

The reopening event featured a vibrant line-up of performances, including dances and immersive shows. Communities from all Portal locations also took part in the experience, highlighting the Portals mission of creating a pure window between distant countries and bringing together people who would otherwise never meet in their lifetime.

The relocation also represents a broader milestone for Portals - a reaffirmation of our commitment to transforming public spaces into a platform for genuine human connection.

Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter. Whether in Vilnius or connecting from afar, this is more than a relocation - it’s reconnection.
