The cherry blossom park — also known as the Japanese Sakura Park — has begun to bloom in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius. The sakura bloom is relatively short-lived, lasting about two weeks, and typically takes place from late April to early May. Locals and visitors are flocking to the park to witness one of the most beautiful seasonal transformations.
Hanami – the Japanese tradition of admiring cherry blossoms – is celebrated around the world, including in Vilnius. The Chiune Sugihara Sakura Park is one of the city's most popular springtime attractions. It features 200 sakura trees, planted in 2001 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara. Recognized as Righteous Among the Nations, Sugihara worked at the Japanese consulate in 1939-1940, issuing transit visas that saved around 6,000 Jews from Lithuania, Poland, and Germany during the Holocaust. The park was a gift from the Japanese government to Lithuania, symbolizing the friendship between the two nations.
The park is located on the right bank of the Neris River, next to the National Gallery of Art. Visiting during the sakura bloom is a perfect opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable weekend and capture a stunning photo gallery – ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone longing for a true taste of spring. Come and experience the magic of cherry blossoms in the heart of Lithuania!
